Our Domestic Relations practice includes both divorce and post divorce work and matters such as parenting responsibilities, post divorce changes, support, etc. It also includes defense and prosecution of domestic violence actions in the district, family and superior courts. Our practice also includes assisting in issues relating to support, property division and parenting rights in unwed relationships and civil unions.
We bring 40 years of combined experience to our relationships with our clients. We make sure that our clients understand the law as it applies to the issues they are facing, then work with them to bring the issues to a conclusion promptly and fairly with sensitivity and compassion.
We are sensitive to the fact that in times of domestic turmoil, money is often a problem and structure our fees accordingly. We have specially devised fee arrangements that recognize these issues. Fees in domestic relations matters are handled on an hourly basis. Retainers are regularly required. The amount of the retainer is determined on an individual basis. It is determined by the nature and complexity of the problems the client needs to have resolved. Additionally, the New Hampshire Supreme Court has recently approved offering unbundled services in family law as well as other areas. It is a particularly effective way to get needed legal services.

Parnell & McKay is pleased to be one of the first firms in New Hampshire to offer Collaborative Divorce Services. Collaborative Divorce is a non-litigation alternative to conventional divorce. It is designed to be less acrimonious and less expensive than litigation based divorce and assists divorcing spouses in developing the skills they will need to deal with each other after the divorce process is completed. It is a process that is encouraged by recent changes in New Hampshire law.
